| Your dentist now has more options available to him when it comes to materials to use in dental filings and repairs. The type of material used depends on the size and position of the repair. Amalgam Dental amalgam is still used in some situations. This stable material can withstand a great deal of bite pressure and is often used in back molars where cosmetic appearance isn't so critical. Composites Composite material is usually a mixture of glass or quartz material mixed in a resin material. The material can be colored to fit the rest of the tooth and is used in small to mid size cavities. More cosmetically pleasing than amalgam filling materials, composites are becoming more and more popular with dental patients. If you have any questions about the material you dentist will be using as a filing material, make sure you ask. |
