A bridge is used to span the space where one or more
teeth have been lost. Typically the teeth on either end of
the gap are shaped to accept crowns. The bridge
consists of the two crowns to provide support and the
artificial tooth (or teeth) between them.
While bridges are often done for cosmetic reasons to
repair a missing tooth they also help in other ways. They
help prevent you teeth from shifting into the gaps left by
the loss of a tooth and help preserve your natural jaw
lines
Implant Bridges
In some situations your dentist may recommend an
implant bridge. Rather than use the adjoining teeth for
support, implant bridges use surgically implanted posts
to provide support for the artificial tooth or teeth.
Since the implant procedure requires surgery you need to have
good
general health and an adequate bone
structure.
