Getting your child's teeth off to a good start is an
important part of your child's health. Dental visits can
start for your child as early as their first birthday Your
dentist will be able to check early tooth development
and set the frequency of following visits.
You can help your child's visits become a positive
experience for them by following some helpful
suggestions:
▪ Don't let anyone tell your child scary stories about
visiting the dentist.
▪ Don't let the child know you feel anxious about
visiting the dentist with them
▪ Don't use bribes to get your child to go to the
dentist
▪ Don't use a visit to the dentist as a punishment or
threat
▪ Do try to make the visit an enjoyable outing for your
child
▪ Do consider a visit to allow your child to get
acquainted with the dentist.
▪ Do set a good example for your child by brushing
and flossing your teeth and by making regular trips to
the dentist.
Children's Tooth development
First incisor - 8-12 months
Second incisor - 9 -13 months
Canines - 16-22 months
First molars - 13-19 months
Second molars - 25-33 months
Your babies teeth are present in the jaw at
birth and can break through as early as 6 months.
Usually all of the primary (baby) teeth appear
by age 3.
